NPTEL is a MHRD Initiative. The NPTEL site contains video lectures from faculty at IIT’s and IISc. The aim of this project was to improve the quality of Engineering and Science Education in the country. NPTEL lectures are a valuable source for students. These lectures are also helpful for students preparing for GATE. Most of the subjects of GATE Exam are covered in these lectures. In this article we will list the lectures to be followed for each subject. However students should keep in mind that viewing these lectures will take a lot of time and they might not be able to watch all lectures in a short time. Students can watch particular subject in which they feel they are weak and gain confidence from these lectures. The transcripts of these lectures for some subjects are available in pdf format and one can read them also while preparing. Now we begin to list the subjects and their corresponding NPTEL lectures which are to be followed.**1) Digital Circuits/Logic Design**

The video lectures which will be useful for this subject are Digital Circuits and Systems by Prof. S Srinivasan, faculty(retd.) at IIT Madras. There are 40 lectures in total. These lectures almost cover the complete syllabus of Digital circuits for Gate exam. However, Microprocessor syllabus is not covered in these lectures.**NPTEL Lectures Link:**http://nptel.ac.in/courses/117106086/1**Transcript Link:**http://textofvideo.nptel.iitm.ac.in/video.php?courseId=117106086 **2) Signals and Systems**

One can follow the lectures of Networks and Systems by Prof. VGK Murti, faculty(retd.) at IIT Madras. There are 50 lectures in total. In the last 6 lectures concepts related to state variable is covered which will be helpful for Control systems.**NPTEL Lectures Link:**http://nptel.ac.in/courses/108106075/1**Transcript Link:**http://textofvideo.nptel.iitm.ac.in/video.php?courseId=108106075**3) Control Systems**

The lectures helpful for this subject are Control Systems by Prof. M Gopal, faculty(retd.) at IIT Delhi. He is a famous author of many text books related to control systems. One can follow the lectures along with the text book written by him.

There are 41 lectures in the course and one can skip from lecture 10 to lecture 18 as they are not important for GATE exam.**NPTEL Lectures Link:**http://nptel.ac.in/video.php?subjectId=108102043**Transcript Link:**http://textofvideo.nptel.iitm.ac.in/video.php?courseId=108102043

4) Electronic Devices/Solid state devices

Video lectures of Solid state devices by Prof. S Karmalkar, faculty at IIT Madras are helpful for this course. There are 40 lectures and one needs to see all the lectures to cover Gate syllabus.**NPTEL Lectures Link:** http://nptel.ac.in/courses/117106091/**Transcript Link:** http://textofvideo.nptel.iitm.ac.in/video.php?courseId=117106091**5) Communications**

For **Analog Communication** part the lectures of Communication Engineering by Prof. Surendra Prasad, faculty(retd) at IIT Delhi will be helpful. He was previously the director of IIT Delhi. There are 41 lectures in this course and all of them will be helpful for Gate exam.**NPTEL Lectures Link:**http://nptel.ac.in/courses/117102059/**Transcript Link:**http://textofvideo.nptel.iitm.ac.in/video.php?courseId=117102059

For **Digital Communication** the lectures to be referred are Digital Communication by Prof. Bikash Kumar Dey, faculty at IIT Bombay. There are 32 lectures in the course. One can directly start from lecture 10 if one is thorough in the concepts of Random Process and Variables. One can skip after lecture 25 as they are not required for Gate exam.**NPTEL Lectures Link:**http://nptel.ac.in/courses/117101051/**Transcript Link:**http://textofvideo.nptel.iitm.ac.in/video.php?courseId=1171010

In addition to these video lectures one can go through web materials of the course, Principles of Communication by Prof V V Rao, faculty(retd.) at IIT Madras. The materials are very helpful to prepare topics related to Random Variables and Processes. One can see the materials from the following link
